We're Here!

We arrived in Cherokee today around 4, and we have had gorgeous weather so far! We checked in and then had a picnic by the Occonoluftee River. We took a walk through the bamboo garden and then headed out to Soco Falls. Finally, we checked out the Kituwah Mound at dusk. It was a full and great day. Tomorrow morning we get to work at the Dora Reed Child Care Center doing whatever we can to help out.

  1. It was a packed afternoon. Soco falls was absolutely beautiful and the bamboo garden was neat too. It was nice getting to hear about the Kituwah mound and how special it is. Excited to see what this week has in store for us.

  2. What a wonderful afternoon it was. Not only did I get to spend the car ride learning more about the Cherokee people, but we then ate dinner by the river. Soco falls was gorgeous, and the sunset was breathe taking. I am so excited to begin working with the the Head Start tomorrow, and see what else this trip has in store for us!

  3. This was a wonderful afternoon and evening. Dr. Bryant is a gifted teacher who really cares about his students. I was able to observe how he interacts with them. Pure joy. It is a treasure to watch! It's all about relationships.

I learned more than I can remember. I was taken on a guided tour of much of the Cherokee Reservation, the beautiful Head Start Building, and an equally beautiful full immersion school. There I was immediately taught how to say "thank you" in Cherokee and I'm sure I will never forget it.

It was truly an exhilarating experience. I met some remarkable individuals today.

I will think about all I heard and saw for a long time to come.

Thanks for welcoming me in everyone!
