Why I Love My Job

I just saw this article on how to get the ultimate bikini for your Spring Break trip this year. And then I thought about the fact that I am in Cherokee with 8 college students who have chosen to spend their break getting up early, working in a Head Start, and generally serving other people--all of whom they have never even met before and may never meet after this week is done. And that's why I love this gig. When the cynicism gets to you, you look around and see idealistic young people who care and work.

And you can't beat that.

    1. I never leave Boone for my Spring Breaks, haven't since I've been a college students starting in 2005. I stay at home and take the time for school work, money-work (devil's work), and relaxation. I am truly blessed to have joined this amazing Spring Break trip to Cherokee. Everywhere and everything that we have seen, experienced, tasted, smelled, laughed at and, or with, and lived has been eye opening--how much wider can my eyes get? I hope till they explode my head. I am so grateful for Dr. Bryant, who takes students out of the mainstream and into the river of spirits, and not only Cherokee spirits, but human spirits, as we are all here as human beings and not tourists who come to Cherokee looking to make it big in the casino and get a picture taken with a real live Injun. I feel sorry for those Spring Breakers looking for their Ultimate Spring Break Bikini. Spring Break is, as it's called, a break, but it's not necessarily intended for complete heathenism (not that there's anything wrong with a little heathenism here and there). So, thank you Dr. Bryant for creating this opportunity for us students, for us future educators, and for us learners--we've certainly learned a lot. I hope this trip continues forever, and brings more emphasis to doing good during Spring Break rather getting drunk, and, well, you can probably guess where the rest of this sentence could go...SPRING BREAK RULES...in Cherokee. I don't know why I'm unknown. Call me El Bosque.
