I really liked this poster that was at the school because I can feel the pride that these kids had of their heritage, even though the students had gone home for the day. It make me realize the pride we, as educators, need to instill in all of our students, no matter their color or heritage. We need to make it so that students are proud of who they are, where they came from, and where they're going. Every student needs to be able to say that they're proud of something, even if its something that only matters to them. We need to encourage our students to have pride in themselves and their work, and be confident that they can rise above any obstacle without losing their identity. Its something that I don't think I have really perfected yet myself. Heck, I sometimes feel like the biggest downer there is! But I work on it every day and in learning how to have pride in myself, I hope I can pass it to my future students, whoever they are, wherever they come from, and wherever they're going in their lives. I just can hope to be a positive influence on them and their lives.
